Super Ruby newcomers the Southern Kings have reduced their 2013 Super Rugby squad from 40 players down to 35 ahead of their first match next week.

The Kings squad still has five foreign players in it as Argentina's Tomas Leonardi and Nicolas Vergallo have been retained in the reduced squad.

In addition New Zealand back Hadleigh Parkes, French hooker Virgile Lacombe and Kenyan forward Daniel Adongo.

It has been rumoured that Adongo will take up South African citizenship which would reduce the number of foreigners to four but that is still twice the number permitted by South African Rugby (SARU) officials.

The Southern Kings play their first Super Rugby match next week at home in Port Elizabeth against the Western Force.
