The Cheetahs could not have asked for a better team to face than the Rebels on return from their most successful Super Rugby tour to date.

The Cheetahs have played the Rebels twice since the Melbourne franchise joined Super rugby in 2011 and both matches have been won by the Cheetahs.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off.
 
The Rebels kick off and we are underway. Riaan Smit had to withdraw from the match as he pulled a hamstring in training so he has been replaced by Burton Francis
 
2.00: The Cheetahs win the first penalty from a scrum so they kick (Francis) for touch.
 
3.10: The Cheetahs win the line out but the Rebels turn the ball over and they get through the Cheetahs defence with a run by James O'Connor. They get the ball into the Cheetahs 22 but are driven back by the Cheetahs.
 
6.00: The Cheetahs win a defensive scrum and Francis boots the ball downfield but the chasers knock on the ball on (Rhule).
 
8.00: The Rebels try to run the ball down the wing but then they use the chip kick and it goes out on the full.  
 
9.00: The Cheetahs kick behind the Rebels and chase. Willie le Roux chases but doesn't get to the ball in time and the Rebels get back as well and the ball rolls out.
 
10.00: Francis puts the ball into the corner so the Rebels have a 5m lineout. They win it and kick the ball out.
 
12.00: The Cheetahs string together the phases but the final pass is too big and the ball goes out. We go back for a penalty.
 
13.00: Burton Francis takes the penalty kick and he nails it in the rain.
 
14.00: Penalty to the Rebels. They kick for touch as it was in their half. The rain is pouring down.
 
17.00: The Cheetahs win a line out and attack from just inside their half. The Rebels defend until the Cheetahs knock on.
 
20.00: The teams take to the air with the ball and it ends with James O'Connor putting the ball out inside the Cheetahs half.
 
21.00: Penalty to the Rebels as the Cheetahs were offside. James O'Connor will kick for posts.
 
23.00: James O'Connor takes the kick and he slots it. The scores are level.
 
25.00: The Rebels steal a Cheetah line out.  Paul Alo-Emile makes a break and make ground. He is then brought to ground but the Rebels are 10m out and on the front foot.
 
26.00: After ten phases the Rebels get to a 1m out. The pressure pays off as they win a penalty under the posts. They will kick.
 
27.00: O'Connor nails the penalty and the Rebels lead.
 
29.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs on the half way line. Delve not rolling away. Francis will kick for posts. He misses.
 
31.00: Francis kicks downfield but its too deep. The Cheetahs are starting to lose control of this match.
 
33.00: The Cheetahs kick and chase, Rhule wins the race but knocks on. The Rebels counter and kick the ball out.
 
34.00: The Cheetahs break out but the pass goes to ground again. The final phase is letting the Cheetahs down.
 
36.00: The Cheetahs snipe inside the Rebels half and they stretch the Rebels defence and Hennie Daniller scores in the corner. TRY!
 
37.00: Francis nails the conversion from the touchline.
 
38.00: The Cheetahs win a scrum and send the ball down the line, they try the chip kick but knock on so O'Connor counter attacks. The Cheetahs turn the ball over and they get to attack.
 
39.00: The Cheetahs get frustrated and kick. O'Connor is back there so he takes the mark.
 
40.00: O'Connor kicks off as the siren goes. It's half time.

The second half is underway.
 
42.00: The Cheetahs are holding on to the ball early in this half. They go through 14 phases and then the ball goes out.
 
44.00: The Cheetahs set up a Rebels defensive scrum on the 5m line. Trevor Nyakane goes down injured which holds up the game. The game resumes and the Rebels win the scrum and kick the ball out.
 
46.00: The Rebels are starting to find some holes in the Cheetahs. This time though the final pass goes forward.
 
47.00: Lachlan Mitchell has to come off injured after getting some help from the medics. The Rebels attack but the Cheetahs push them into touch.
 
51.00: The Cheetahs go through the phases but then Robert Ebersohn changes direction and passes to  Raymond Rhule who races to the line and scores. TRY!
 
52.00: Burton Francis adds the conversion.
 
55.00: The Rebels start to build up and get into the Cheetahs 22. They get about 5m in and then get stuck. There is some counter attack as each side turns the ball over but the Rebels effectively get pushed back and then they win a penalty on the 22m line.
 
57.00: The Rebels will kick for posts. O'Connor takes the kick and nails it.
 
62.00: Trevor Nyakane is down again so Adriaanse comes on for him. The Rebels are enjoying good territory but they are not able to do much with the ball when they have it.
 
63.0: Adriaan Strauss pops the ball out from a tackle into Willie le Roux hands and he runs away and scores the Cheetahs third TRY!
 
64.00: Burton Francis misses the conversion.
 
65.00: The Rebels suffer a blow as Like Jones drops a shoulder into Willie le Roux so the visitors will be without a man for almost the rest of the match.
 
66.00: The Cheetahs immediately expose the Rebels shortage of a player and Francis sends Johan Sadie in for the bonus point TRY!
 
68.00: Francis adds the conversion.
 
72.00: The Cheetahs are using the numbers to their advantage and this time Ryno Benjamin scores in the corner. We go upstairs to check. It's all good so the try is awarded.
 
73.00: Burton Francis misses the conversion.
 
76.00: The Cheetahs lose their concentration and the Rebels snipe after a line out and  Cadeyrn Neville slips over the tryline for a relatively soft try.
 
77.00: James O'Connor adds the conversion.
 
80.00: The Cheetahs get the ball down to the Rebels 5m line. They win a scrum and spread the ball wide as the siren sounds. That's it. The Cheetahs win.
