The Cheetahs and the Blues are both chasing a place in the Super Rugby play offs and a loss this weekend will almost certainly rule them out of the top six.

The Cheetahs have not played the Blues since the 2011 season due to the Super Rugby draw.

The Cheetahs have a lifeline next week as they have a bye and therefore a guaranteed four points but they really need a bonus point victory to ensure their first ever Super Rugby play off.

The Blues will be out of the running completely if they lose this weekend without taking any points from the match.

Both teams are also coming off a loss last weekend. The Cheetahs were well beaten by the Stormers while the Blues lost to the Sharks in the final minute of the match.

The Cheetahs have played the Blues 6 times since they joined Super Rugby in 2006.

From those six Super Rugby matches the Cheetahs have won one and lost five times. That gives them a record of winning 17% of their matches against the Blues.

The average score when the Cheetahs play the Blues is : Cheetahs 23 Blues 36.

This weekend's match will be played in Bloemfontein where the teams have played each other 3 times.

Surprisingly even though the Cheetahs play their home matches in Bloemfontein they have only beaten the Blues once in the city.

That gives the Cheetahs a record of winning 33% of their home matches against the Blues.

The average score in Bloemfontein when the teams meet also favours the Blues at Cheetahs 32 Blues 39.

The Blues last played in Bloemfontein in 2010 and lost by four points. In 2008 they won by 24 points and in 2006 they won by a point.

The Blues have however been hit by injury in recent weeks and in the last week they have lost Chris Noakes and Piri Weepu.

That means that Baden Kerr and Jamison Gibson-Park will direct the Blues backline. In all for this week the Blues made four changes.

The Cheetahs on the other hand made two changes to the team that lost to the Stormers - although one change was a late replacement when Willie le Roux dropped out on Friday last week.

The Blues have been inconsistent at times this year and have gotten to where they are in the overall standings largely on bonus points - they have 12 bonus points which is more than any other team.

The Blues have only won six matches compared to the Cheetahs nine matches. This suggests that the Cheetahs with home advantage and more settled combinations are more likely to win.

The Bookies have given the Blues an 8 point start for this Match - with an offer of a FREE $150 BET. The Blues will push the Cheetahs but they should do enough to win the match. The Cheetahs should win by three.

This Match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in the UK on Sky Sports 4/HD.

Average score: Cheetahs 23 Blues 36
