The Chiefs continued their winning streak and took top spot in the Super 14 with a match to come in Rd.9 when they comfortably beat the Cheetahs by 10 points to 28 in Kimberley.

The Chiefs scored three tries and therefore failed to pick up a bonus point for scoring three tries which could prove to be crucial in the weeks to come as the table is becoming very congested.

The result puts the Chiefs in a strong first place on the Super 14 table as the Sharks in second place have played an extra match.

The first points in the game only appeared in the eighth minute, when Chiefs fly half Stephen Donald slotted a penalty.

Eight minutes later, Donald went over for what would have been an excellent try, but, unfortunately, he lost the ball forward.

Although the visitors spent most of the first forty minutes in the Cheetahs' half, it was the Cheetahs who scored the first try in the 33rd minute when wing Jongi Nokwe scored in the near side corner, very well converted by Jacques-Louis Potgieter, to make the score 7-3.

But 30 seconds from the break, Donald narrowed the deficit to one point, at 7-6 to the Cheetahs.

In the first minute of the second half, the Chiefs took the lead when their replacement hooker Hika Elliot went over to score 16 metres in from touch, converted by Donald, to take the score to 13-7. It took another 26 minutes for the next points to appear on the board.

In the 67th minute Jacques-Louis Potgieter slotted a penalty, narrowing the gap to 13-10, but three minutes later, Sege Lilo scored a try in the far corner which went unconverted.

The Chiefs increased their lead to 21-10 after Donald returned the penalty .

However, in the 75th minute, replacement fly half for the Chiefs, Mike Delany, scored a soft try courtesy of some poor defensive work from the Cheetahs, and converted the try himself, making the final score 28-10 to the Chiefs.
