Hurricanes captain TJ Perenara has blamed his team’s mistakes for their 17-16 loss to the Highlanders in Dunedin.

The Hurricanes loss means that the Hurricanes are winless after two matches which is in contrast to the 2015 season when they were unbeaten until the 10th round.

From their two opening matches the Hurricanes have only a losing bonus point to show for their efforts.

Perenara, who scored a try for the Hurricanes in the second half admitted that they need to improve.

“We need to look at some critical times we made a few errors and let the Highlanders close it out at the end. We need to be better than that,” he said.

“We turned the ball over, especially down in our half and they camped down there for a fair bit of that second half.”

The Hurricanes visit Auckland next week to face the Blues who beat the Highlanders in Rd.1
