The Melbourne Rebels have confirmed their pre-season schedule ahead of the 2017 Super Rugby season with two trial matches against the Western Force and Queensland Reds, fixtured around the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens.

The Rebels kick off their pre-season campaign against the Force at Bond University on the Gold Coast in the lead up to the inaugural Brisbane Global Rugby Tens tournament before completing their trials against the Reds at Ballymore Stadium.

The two traditional trial matches will bookend the inaugural Tens tournament, which will feature 14 teams from around the world, including the ten Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby teams, along with the Bulls (South Africa), Toulon (France), Panasonic Wild Knights (Japan) and Tonga.

“The two trial matches, along with the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens, will provide us with the chance to fine tune our preparation for Round One of 2017 Super Rugby season against the Blues in Melbourne,” Melbourne Rebels General Manager Rugby Operations Baden Stephenson said.

“The Brisbane Tens gives us a unique opportunity to facilitate a series of trial matches against the Force and Reds on either side of the tournament.”

Along with the Force and Reds, the Rebels will take on the Chiefs, Panasonic Wild Knights, and NSW Waratahs in the preliminary round of the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, from 11-12 February.

The top-two teams from each of the four pools will progress to the knockout Quarter-Finals, which begins with the first quarterfinal on Sunday at 12.48pm and concludes with the inaugural Grand Final at 5.40pm.

The Rebels will return home ahead of their season opener nine days later against the Blues at AAMI Park, Melbourne, on Thursday 23 February from 7.30pm (AEDT).
