Rebels lose Harris and Fainga’a to injury

Melbourne Super Rugby franchise the Rebels have lost Mike Harris for up to 12 weeks and  Colby Fainga’a for a month and a half due to injury.

Harris and Fainga’a will both return to Melbourne after suffering injuries in the opening round 19-25 victory over the Western Force in Perth.

Harris was withdrawn from the game midway through the first half after suffering a quad strain during the warm up while scans on Monday revealed Fainga’a sustained elbow strain after coming on as a substitute early in the second half.

The current estimate is that Harris will be out of action for between 10 and 12 weeks while Fainga’a will be out for up to six weeks.

Rebels new recruit Kotaro Matsushima, who arrived in Melbourne for the first time on Thursday afternoon, along with Culum Retallick and Paul Asquith, will travel to Johannesburg and join the team in South Africa ahead of Round Two against the Bulls.

Cam Crawford (Hamstring): 2 – 3 weeks

Scott Fuglistaller (Hip): 3 – 4 weeks

Colby Fainga’a (Elbow): 4 – 6 weeks

Mike Harris (Quad): 10 – 12 weeks

Tim Metcher (Hamstring – 2015 NRC): Indefinite

Sefa Naivalu (Leg – 2015 Super Rugby): Indefinite
