Queensland Reds back rower Curtis Browning will leave Australia and play for the newly-promoted Top 14 club Lyon after the Super Rugby season.

The Reds have confirmed that the 33 Super Rugby cap Browning has impressed in recent matches at No.8 after the injury to Jake Schatz.

Browning’s Super Rugby contract with the Reds was coming to an end and he has chosen to pursue his career abroad.

Twenty-two-year-old Browning captained Australian Schoolboys and Australia U20s but his Super Rugby career has been hampered by injuries.

Browning’s departure will be softened a little by the recent signing of Leroy Houston.

The backrower is one of several recent French signings and he will be joined at Lyon by Rebels utility back Mike Harris and French flyhalf Freddie Michalak.

Liam Gill is another of the Reds loose-forwards who will be heading to France.
