QR Queensland Reds coach Eddie Jones has named a number of new faces in the 22-man squad to play Japan on Friday 10 November in Tokyo.

Rugby league convert Clinton Schifcofske will make his professional rugby debut at fullback, however flanker Tom McVerry’s comeback from a hamstring injury was delayed after he failed to pass a fitness test.

Among the new faces are rookies Charlie Fetoai, Quade Cooper and Geoff Abram, and Reds Academy players Will Genia and Ben Daley.

Abram’s selection adds to a big week for his family with twin sister Felicity winning the Noosa Triathlon last Sunday.

Jones said the match against Japan was a good opportunity for young players like Abram and winger/centre Henari Veratau to impress ahead of pre-season training.

‘These matches are important for us to give the young guys experience in tough matches away from home and for them to show what they can do,’ Jones said.

Centre Ben Tune has been rested in order to maximise his preparation for the next year’s Investec Super 14 season.
