QRU board member Dan Crowley has said the QRU was looking to announce a new coach before the end of January to avoid continued speculation spilling into the inaugural Super 14 season, which kicks off on February 10.
“It would be interesting to see what would happen if we named someone that they had in mind,” Crowley said. “Nothing is set in stone. We are considering a number of candidates and we will continue on that path next week.
“We want to go through the proper process as thoroughly as possible and then get it out of the way before the start of the Super 14 season.
“We don’t want a situation where we’ve got to February and it hasn’t been settled. But if the ARU is looking at the same people we are then we can’t do much about it.”
“We don’t want a situation where the season has started and people are still talking about who will be the new coach in 2007,” Crowley said.
“We want to get it done and then it will leave us all to concentrate on football. And I’m sure the ARU feels the same way about their search for a new coach too.”, he said
