Match 7 of the 2011 Super Rugby season this week is on Sunday and is between the Reds and the Force in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium which just over a month ago was underwater.

Reds vs Force

This match used to go a long way to deciding who came last in the Australian teams but the Reds resurgence last year was the talk of the Super Rugby season.

Historically these two teams have only met five times and the Reds have won three of the five clashes. A closer look at the history though reveals that the Reds won all of their home games and the Force won both of their home games in Perth.

On average when these teams meet the Reds score 24 and the Force score 23 points but that figure will have been distorted by the 50-10 rout that the Reds gave the Force last year.

The Reds finished in fifth place last year just missing out on the play offs while the Force – who were admittedly hit by injury – finished in 12th place. Last year they won 71 per cent of their matches at home and have said that they want to do better this year.

Had they not lost two of their 7 home matches last season they would have been in the play offs so expect the Reds to turn Suncorp into a fortress especially since they have had record numbers of membership sign-ups.

Judging by the feedback coming out of the Force camp they appear to be very confident of an improved season in 2011. They have a couple of new signings and they have a new coach in Richard Graham who was previously with the Wallabies as Skills Coach and has worked with some of the biggest names in rugby.

At the time of writing the Force had not named their team but were expecting to be able to name captain Nathan Sharpe for the clash after he had earlier been in doubt. There have also been rumblings about playing James O’Connor at 10.

The Bookies have given the The Bookies have given the Force a 9 point start for this match – Bet £ 10 get and £ 20.. . We think the Reds will start with a bang and that the Reds will win by 13.
