Two time Rugby World Cup winning cross-code star Sonny Bill Williams looks set to join the Blues instead of his former Super Rugby team the Chiefs.

Sonny Bill has focused on Sevens Rugby this season instead of Super Rugby but is expected to return to Super Rugby next season.

According to sources Sonny Bill has settled on a three year deal with New Zealand Rugby and the Blues.

The New Zealand Rugby Union have announced a press conference in Auckland on Wednesday to confirm Sonny Bill’s playing future where all will be revealed.

Williams’ mother lives in Auckland and it understood that he wants to be close to her and he may feel that with All Blacks Charlie Ngatai and Seta Tamanivalu in the Chiefs squad he would get more game time in Auckland.

Sonny Bill won a Super Rugby title with the Chiefs in 2012 but he has a long term relationship with Blues coach Tana Umaga who he worked with a Toulon and Counties Manukau.

When Sonny Bill was playing for the Chiefs they were able to offer the chance to work with Wayne Smith but he is no longer there and Dave Rennie looks set to leave at the end of next year.

Perhaps the location of the press conference is the biggest clue as to where Sonny Bill will be playing Super Rugby in 2017.
