New Zealand beat South Africa in Rugby Championship

The Rugby Championship reaches it’s final round in Durban this weekend where South Africa’s Springboks host New Zealand’s All Blacks.

We are waiting for the kick off. The anthems have been sung. The Haka will follow.

Morne Steyn kicks off and the match is underway.

1.00: The Springboks almost immediately concede a penalty  (Habana playing the ball on the ground)- Beauden Barrett kicks for touch.

2.00: The All Blacks knock the ball on after the line out so South Africa have a scrum near the half way line. South Africa win the scrum and then as they change sides they win a penalty. Steyn will have a shot at posts.

4.00: Steyn takes the kick and nails it. South Africa lead.

6.00: The All Blacks respond by running the ball at South Africa and working the ball into South Africa’s half. The All Blacks win a penalty for not rolling away. Pieter Steph du Toit. Barrett will have as shot at the posts. He misses to the right.

8.00: The All Blacks begin their attack from inside their half. Ben Smith almost gets through but Juan de Jongh intercepts a pass from Kieran Read. De Jongh chips the ball ahead but Beauden Barrett gets back and secures the ball.

9.00: Penalty to New Zealand from the line out. Barrett kicks for touch.

11.00: The All Blacks win the line out and run at South Africa. After 6 phases they get into the South African 22. They keep the ball moving but the ball goes to ground. The All Blacks recover and continue the attack. Pieter Steph du Toit is down but the All Blacks continue to attack until they are tackled into touch.

12.00: Jaco Kriel comes on for Francois Louw – could be permanent. The Springboks win the line out in their 22 and after two phases they try to clear the ball – straight to Waisake Naholo. He has a run and makes ground. The All Blacks lose the ball forward giving South Africa a scrum.

13.00: South Africa win the scrum but get trapped and Steyn has to rush his clearance kick into touch. The All Blacks take a quick line out and South Africa steal it. Steyn clears but fails to find touch. The All Blacks counter attack but then SA win the put in at the scrum as the ball goes dead.

16.00: South Africa win the scrum and run the ball through one phase and then kick. The ball goes to ground and De Jongh chips it ahead, the All Blacks scramble and concede a penalty. Steyn will have a shot at goal.

17.00: Steyn lines up the penalty kick and nails it.

19.00: After the restart the All Blacks run the ball but lose it in the tackle. South Africa win the scrum and Steyn kicks upfield. Israel Dagg gets back and begins the counter attack.

20.00: Naholo makes ground but is caught, the All Blacks keep attacking and get to the 5m line. They change sides but the attack is relentless and eventually they get the overlap created by Jerome Kaino sucking in the final defender and Israel Dagg slips in untouched and scores. TRY!

22.00: Beauden Barrett takes the conversion kick and hits the post and it bounces out. SA still lead.

24.00: South Africa win a line out after the All Blacks take it into touch. SA win the line out and run the ball to the opposite side. There was a deliberate knock down so SA have a penalty just inside the All Black half.

26.00: Steyn lines up the penalty kick. He sneaks it over the crossbar.

27.00: The All Blacks begin their attack from the restart. They get the ball almost to the Springbok 5m line but then lose the ball. South Africa chip the ball ahead and chase but then knock on.

29.00: South Africa win the scrum and pass the ball to Habana who kicks it into touch.

31.00: The All Blacks win the line out and move the ball across the field where they win a penalty. Barrett kicks for touch.

32.00: The All Blacks win the line out and work the ball to the line. They drive over the line and TJ Perenara goes over. The TMO is called in to check. It’s a TRY ! The All Blacks lead.

33.00: Barrett adds the conversion.

34.00: Patrick Lambie clears the ball into touch and finds it in the All Black 22. They take a quick line out and catch South Africa offside. Barrett clears the ball into touch.

36.00: South Africa win the line out and run the ball at New Zealand. Morne Steyn goes for a drop goal but misses.

37.00: The All Blacks begin their counter attack from deep. They get into the Springbok 22 where SA turn the ball over and take into touch.

38.00:New Zealand win the line out and drive for the line. Naholo almost gets over but they are called back for a penalty on the 5m line. All Blacks take the line out.

40.00: The siren sounds after the line out throw. They go short and Brodie Retalick scores. Or does he. We go to the TMO. No  try – penalty to SA for obstruction. SA kick the ball out to end the half.

Beauden Barrett kicks off and the second half is underway.

41.00: The All Blacks start strongly and work the ball into the Springboks 22. They get to the 5m line after 10 phases but get pressed back.

42.00: Relentless pressure from the All Blacks as they get to 16 phases. Again to the 5m line. 18 phases.

43.00: The pressure continues and on the 20th phase Israel Dagg slips through and scores his second TRY!

44.00: Barrett misses the conversion.

47.00: The All Blacks concede a penalty on the half way line. South Africa choose the penalty shot. Steyn lines up.

49.00: Steyn nails the kick.

51.00: The All Blacks start to press forward and win a penalty at the breakdown. Barrett kicks to the corner.

52.00: The All Blacks win the line out but Francois Hougaard gets a boot to the ball after its turned over and the All Blacks have to chase. They get back and South Africa concede a penalty for an intentional knock down. Barrett clears the ball into touch.

54.00: South Africa steal the line out. Lambie tries to clear the ball but is charged down and Barrett chases and scores the TRY!

56.00: Barrett misses the conversion.

57.00: South Africa chip the ball ahead and Barrett has to get back. He collects the ball and Willem Alberts collects him. South Africa win the ball back and then a penalty. Steyn will have another shot.

59.00: Steyn slots the penalty.

60.00: The All Blacks unlock the Springboks with pace and skill after Lambie misses a high ball, Barrett starts the attack, Dagg offloads to Coles who passes to Perenara who scores his second TRY!

61.00: Barrett slots the conversion.

63.00: Willie le Roux comes on for Morne Steyn. Lambie goes to flyhalf.

64.00: New Zealand win a scrum in their half and run the ball at the Springboks. The attack slows on the half way line and then they start going through the phases. Steady but slower. The ball is however lost forward. The All Blacks have brought some fresh legs on too. Crockett, Savea, Sopoaga & Squire on.

67.00: SA win the scrum and run the ball from their 22. In the first half they would have kicked the ball but this time they run the ball and Willie le Roux makes huge ground. The All Blacks get back to secure the ball but pass the ball forward. Kerr-Barlow comes on for Perenara. Mapoe comes on for de Klerk. Hougaard moves to 9.

69.00: Penalty against South Africa – Julian Redelinghuys who has come on for the Beast. NZ kick for touch.

70.00: South Africa come away with the ball after the line out but as they run it wide they lose the ball and the All Blacks counter attack. Beauden Barrett gets the ball and races for the line and scores under the posts. The TMO will review it. It’s a TRY!

71.00: Barrett slots the conversion.

71.00: Lood de Jager is yellow carded for an illegal clear out on Wyatt Crockett. Barrett finds touch with the penalty.

72.00: The All Blacks win the line out and drive over the tryline and score. Codie Taylor TRY!

73.00: Lima Sopoaga slots the conversion.

74.00: The All Blacks continue to attack and Liam Squire splits the Boks open, Barrett gets the ball and passes to Ben Smith who scores. TRY!

75.00: Sopoaga slots the conversion.

78.00: The Springboks kick upfield and Barret clears the ball into touch.

78.00: Penalty to South Africa, Lambie kicks for touch. The SA fans are already leaving. South Africa win the line out but the ball is turned over and cleared into touch.

80.00: South Africa win a penalty after a line out. Codie Taylor gets shown a yellow card for a high tackle.

81.00: The All Blacks get the ball and counter attack after an SA kick. They run the ball into the SA half and then kick. Ben Smith gets the ball and offloads to Squire who dives in to score try number 9. TRY!

82.00: Sopoaga adds the conversion.
