South Africa head coach Allister Coetzee has called Springboks flyhalf Morne Steyn as injury cover for Patrick Lambie ahead of the second Test against Ireland at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Steyn’s agent Johan van Greune has confirmed that the flyhalf had been added the Springbok squad, following the concussion Patrick Lambie sustained in South Africa’s 26-20 defeat to the Irish over the weekend.

Lambie received a blow to the head during the first half from Irish flanker CJ Stander, which prompted a red card for the forward reducing the tourists to 14 men.

The Stade Francais flyhalf was told about his recall on Sunday while he was on holiday in South Africa.

Steyn, a 60-Test veteran, has scored 694 points for his country as a lethally accurate goal-kicker.

Elton Jantjies is expected to start at number 10, with Steyn providing cover from the bench.
