Sunwolves lose star winger Yamada

The Sunwolves have called wing John Stewart and lock Faatiga Lemalu into their squad in South Africa as injury cover.

The Sunwolves will be without their star winger Akihito Yamada and lock Shinya Makabe so Stewart and Lemalu have joined the squad as they prepare to face the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Yamada and Lemalu were both part of the Japan Rugby World Cup squad in 2015. Yamada is the Sunwolves top tryscorer with five tries and he is expected to return in two to three weeks.

The Sunwolves have not released further details of Yamada and Makabe’s injuries.

The Sunwolves lost their sixth straight match on Friday when they were beaten 46-19 by the Stormers.

They play the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday before returning to Japan to host the Jaguares in Tokyo.
