Sunwolves wing Yamada leaves Japan Sevens squad injured

Super Rugby’s joint leading try scorer Akihito Yamada has left the Japanese l sevens training camp due to injury.

The Sunwolves winger has scored nine tries this season and tops the table with Lions centre Lionel Mapoe.

According to the Japan Rugby Football Union Yamada is still in contention for the Olympics in Rio and the team will be announced later this month.

Yamada, who was part of the Brave Blossoms Rugby World Cup squad in England last year, is understood to have been suffering with pain in his calf during Monday’s training session.

The Sunwolves return to Super Rugby on July 2 with a home match in Tokyo against the Waratahs.
