Highlanders v Rebels Super Rugby Preview

The first Super rugby match on Saturday in the final round is in Dunedin where the Highlanders host the Rebels in a match that will decide who travels to play an away play off.

The Highlanders are currently in sixth place on 40 points with a -14 points differential. They could overtake the Chiefs but the current points difference is over 100 points so they will most likely be playing to consolidate sixth place.

The Rebels are in 8th place with 35 points. Almost anything could happen for the Rebels as they could be overtaken by the Sharks or they could move up to 7th place.

The Rebels cannot overtake the Highlanders as they have more wins. The Rebels then should also be playing to seal their place in the play offs as they have never reached the knock out stage yet.

These teams have already met once this season and that match was won 35-49 by the Lions in Pretoria.

The Lions have played the Bulls 24 times in Super rugby since 1998 and the Lions have won 10 matches and lost 14. In Johannesburg these teams have met 10 times and the Lions have won 5 and lost 5.
