Controversially suspended Blues and North Harbour inside back Rua Tipoki is believed to be sounding out future playing options overseas.
He has been sighted in the UK recently. Wasps appear to be particularly interested in the hard-nosed and elusive No 12, where he would be a handy replacement for recently departed England midfielder Stuart Abbott.
Tipoki is currently serving a 16 month suspension arising from an illegal check dished out to the Force’s No 10 James Hilgendorf in round 10 of the Super 14.
Prior to his heavy suspension, Tipoki’s experience and excellent form for the Blues saw him rate as a strong candidate for his first All Blacks selection.
However Tipoki is an integral part of his provincial North Harbour team, having performed strongly for them in last year’s NPC.
North Harbour coach Allan Pollock is optimistic that his veteran inside centre will remain loyal to his roots but admitted that: “The level of interest (in Tipoki) from overseas has been substantial with a capital ‘S.”
