The Australian Rugby Union and the four Australian Super 14 Unions (NSW Rugby, QLD Rugby, the Brumbies and RugbyWA) have teamed up with Vodafone Australia in a national, multi-million dollar, three-year sponsorship deal.

The partnership means that Vodafone take up the exclusive telecommunications sponsorship of the Wallabies, Brumbies, QLD Reds and Western Force. They will become sleeve sponsor for the NSW Waratahs.

Vodafone will offer exclusive rugby content on Vodafone live!, and will include behind the scenes footage, interviews with players, match statistics and team updates.

Chief Executive of Vodafone Australia Russell Hewitt said; “Vodafone, like many of its customers, has been a passionate supporter of Australian rugby for many years and we are excited to renew our ties with the rugby community.

“The SOHO and SME markets are a key focus for growth in 2006. We are rapidly expanding our products and services and plan to relate the benefits of the mobile through this sponsorship,” Hewitt added.

“We want to bring this sponsorship to life for our customers and rugby supporters. Whether it’s on their handset or at the game we will deliver a bigger, better rugby experience.”

CEO and Managing Director of Australian Rugby Gary Flowers said; “We are just ten days away from kick off in the new, expanded Tooheys New Super 14 competition, we have our biggest ever Test season later this year, and we are today announcing a multi-million dollar deal with Vodafone. Rugby has never been in better shape.”

Chief Executive of NSW Rugby Fraser Neill said: “The NSW Waratahs are proud to be associated with Vodafone who will be taking the high-profile position on the sleeve of the Waratah jersey for the upcoming Super 14 tournament.”

Existing customers will also have access to ‘money can’t buy’ rugby experiences through Vodafone’s customer loyalty reward program, Delight.

The deal was announced today at ARU headquarters supported by Wallabies and Waratahs players Wendell Sailor, Dan Vickerman, Rocky Elsom and Al Baxter.
