Former Wallabies and Reds winger Digby Ioane will play Super Rugby for current champions the Crusaders again in 2018.

Ioane made just three appearances for the Crusaders in 2017 due to a hand injury but is hoping to get more game time in 2018.

Thirty-two-year-old Ioane says that while he has no desire of playing for the Wallabies again he has fallen in love with rugby again in Christchurch.

Ioane was part of the Reds squad in 2011 when they beat the Crusaders in the Super Rugby final so has played a role in two Super Rugby winning campaigns.

Crusaders chief executive Hamish Riach has confirmed that Ioane will be back for the Crusaders in 2018.

“It was a slightly complicated structure to the deal,” Riach told FoxSports.

“It wasn’t a normal contract, in that we did two one-year deals, for a whole lot of reasons.

“While we always expected it was the equivalent of a two-year deal, there was that possibility that Digby might have decided to potentially make other choices for that second year.”
