The previous six Super Rugby matches between the Reds and Waratahs had all been won by the New South Wales side as the Reds last beat the Waratahs in July 2013.

The result moves the Waratahs into second place in the Australian Conference ahead of the Reds in third. The Brumbies lead the conference in Australia.

The Reds outscored the Waratahs by four tries to two in the match but five penalty kicks from Bernard Foley proved to be enough to win the match for the Sydney side.

The Reds who found themselves on the wrong end of a 16-4 penalty count get a consolation losing bonus point for finishing within seven points.

Next week in the eleventh round the Reds play the Chiefs in New Plymouth while the Waratahs return home to Sydney where they will host Auckland’s Blues.

More to follow.
