The Reds have not beaten the Waratahs since 2004. All of the last six matches have gone the way of the Waratahs.

While that stat initially looks intimidating for the Queenslanders the Reds actually have a favourable record against the Waratahs as the two teams have played each other 15 times and the Waratahs have lost 8.

While the Reds have lost the last six matches against the Waratahs between 1996 and 2004 the Reds didn’t lose a match to the Waratahs and they also won six matches in a row. At home in Sydney the Waratahs have won the last three matches against the Reds and lost the four before that.

On average when these two players play each other the the Waratahs score 19 points and the Reds on average score 21 points.

The Waratahs were only really tested for the first quarter in their Super rugby opener against the Rebels while the Reds last week had to chase the Force for almost the entire match. The Waratahs showed some good ball handling skills and got quick ball with the pop pass.

Admittedly it was played in stifling heat but the Reds did not look like the free-flowing and attacking team of 2010. At the time of writing Reds coach Ewen McKenzie had not yet named his team and he is more than likely deliberating over which players he can put in to get that spark back.

In contrast Waratahs coach named an unchanged team much earlier in the week so the Waratahs are a settled group

The Bookies have given the Reds a 6 point start for this match and have an offer of Bet £ 10 and get £ 20 in bets. We think it will be close and that the Waratahs will shade it by three.
