David Ellis will stay on as France’s defence coach until at least the end of 2008.

The Englishman, who joined Les Bleus’ backroom staff in October 2001, was retained after the World Cup by new head coach Marc Lievremont and will remain with the squad for their summer and autumn Test matches.

“David will come with us on the tour to Australia,” said Jean Dunyach, Les Bleus’ assistant manager and the vice-president of the French Rugby Federation to the Press Association.

“And he will also be with us for the autumn internationals.

“He is counting on staying with us and we wish to keep him.”

Yorkshireman Ellis is under contract at Top 14 side Brive until the end of the season.
