Ellis earns AB call up for NH tour

Canterbury Crusaders scrum-half Andrew Ellis is the only new cap named in the 32-man New Zealand squad for November’s European tour where the All Blacks will face England in a match that will open the new Twickenham stadium on Sunday the 5th of November.

The All Blacks also play World cup hosts France on 12 and 19 November and Wales in Cardiff on 26 November

Ellis will be the third choice scrum-half behind Byron Kelleher and Piri Weepu and replaces Jimmy Cowan in the squad.

Keith Robinson who plays lock makes a return to the squad after a two year absence when he played six tests between 2002 and 2004.

Other recalls are centre Conrad Smith, lock James Ryan, fly-half Nick Evans and utility back Ma’a Nonu.

Smith broke his leg early on in the Super 14 season and was widely touted as a replacement for Tana Umaga and due to his injury he was unavailable for selection so Auckland centre Isaia Toeava earned a few caps in his absence.

Doug Howlett and prop Greg Somerville were not considered for selection because of injury.
