Scrumhalf Andy Williams withdrew from the Wales squad to tour South Africa on Sunday with a back injury.

Gareth Cooper is expected to start in his place, with rookie Warren Fury the other scrumhalf option.

“Andy suffered a recurrence of a back problem during training last week and as a consequence he has been deemed unfit to tour,” Wales physiotherapist Mark Davies said.

Mike Phillips, Dwayne Peel, Gavin Henson, Lee Byrne, Martyn Williams and Huw Bennett are also absent from the two-test tour due to injury or have been rested.

Wales leaves May 29 and will play South Africa on June 7 in Bloemfontein and on June 14 in Pretoria.
