Ulster duo Peter Stringer and Marcus Horan who both played in the win over South Africa last weekend have been replaced by Isaac Boss and Bryan Young for Sunday’s Ireland test vs Australia in Dublin.

Denis Hickie comes in for Andrew Trimble who has some hamstring worries and Geordan Murphy replaces Girvan Dempsey at full-back.

Boss’s place in the team is indicative of Ireland’s assessment of the current Australian team as it breaks up a long standing Munster partnership of Stringer and Ronan O’Gara.

For Australia Rogers is dropped to the bench from 10 and Stephen Larkham comes back at fly-half while the midfield is much more powerful consisting of Stirling Mortlock and Lote Tuqiri and Mark Gerard on the wing.

“It was a good result against South Africa and we said we’d look at making some changes.” said Eddie O Sullivan.

“Isaac makes his first start at half back and it’s an opportunity for him to show what he can do. Geordan gets a run at full-back which is tough on Girvan, but I’d like to see Geordan get another run-out.

“In the front row, Bryan Young gets the chance to show what he can do. I was going to put him in at some time this season.

“It’s time for him to step up to the plate.” he added.
