England rugby player Mike Tindall, the boyfriend of Queen Elizabeth II granddaughter Zara Phillips, pleaded guilty Monday to driving drunk.

The 29-year-old Gloucester center failed a breath test in March after being stopped by police while driving alone on a highway.

The previous day he had been attending the Cheltenham racing festival with Phillips.

Reading Magistrates’ Court put Tindall on bail, and ordered him to appear before another court in Newbury in October for a “special reasons” hearing.

Tindall’s attorney, Richard Mallett, said that a medical expert would be called to present the special circumstances of the case.

The 26-year-old Phillips, Tindall’s long-term boyfriend, was due to compete at the Beijing Olympics next month but pulled out of the equestrian competition because of an injury to her horse.

He also missed out on selection for England’s Elite player squad and went on England’s disaster tour to New Zealand.
