Argentina suffered a blow ahead of their clash with the Springboks in Johannesburg as they lost prop Juan Gomez with a knee injury.
Gomez plays for Leinster and has won four Pumas caps. He was ruled out of the South African clash after he was sent to the team doctor in the afternoon for an MRI, which resulted showed a breakage of the external meniscus of his left knee
Gomez is something of a newcomer for the Pumas having won three of his four caps this year (against Scotland twice and Italy once).
Argentina coach Santiago Phelan called up Jockey Club Salta prop Juan Figallo as Gomez replacement.
The team has been focusing on defence and their line out. Alvaro Galindo said of the pratice, “This is a very important match, against a very good opponent and special conditions. I am happy to be able to be in this campus, and I hope to have the opportunity to play for a while. ”
“In recent workouts were working hard on the defensive. This point has always been one of the keys to the Argentine game, and hopefully on Saturday to remain so. “
Lucas Borges reiterated that defense would be important for the Pumas and said, “Today we were much coaching on the defensive. The defense will be a key aspect in the game, because they are a team that plays very well. ”
“The practices are very intense, but starting tomorrow, that intensity will change, because only train in a single shift. The important thing anyway is to be concentrated and maximize every moment we have to improve. ”
