Former Australia coach Eddie Jones has said that he is interested in filling the vacant England post on a short-term basis for the 2007 Six Nations and the World Cup.

Jones was Wallaby coach and had a bad run against England which included losing to England in 2003 World Cup final. Last year he was fired and is now coach of the Super 14 team the Queensland Reds.

“Having coached at international level I’d like to do so again and a job coaching England is one of the biggest in the world,” Jones said.

Jones said that England are quite capable of appearing in a semi-final at the World Cup.

“There are only six sides competing for fourth spot, so the chances of reaching a semi-final are pretty good,” he added in an interview in the Sunday Times.

“You have to beat South Africa in the group stage but, if you do, anything can happen because you get momentum.”

“Nobody wants to see England doing poorly because it is not in the interests of the game globally,” said Jones

“So if the RFU asked me to look at a 10-month contract through to the end of the World Cup, I would most definitely give it serious consideration.”
