Elsom doubtful for Barbarians v Wallaby clash

Barbarians flanker Rocky Elsom is doubtful for Saturday’s match against the Wallabies after he was unable to participate in Friday’s Barbarian training session due to an injury.

The Barbarians have called up Elsom’s former Waratahs team-mate David Lyons as a replacement in the squad.

As yet no decision has been made on Elsom’s match participation and Barbarian’s management are expected to make a decision on Saturday afternoon – just before the match.

“I’ll wait and see what happens but it would be a great honour to play for the Barbarians,” Lyons told Sportal.

Lyons is a 44 Wallaby Test veteran and made the move to Llanelli Scarlets after eight years with the Waratahs.

He is back in Sydney on a three-week holiday during the northern hemisphere off-season and admitted that he was stunned by the call-up.

“It came out of the blue, the call to join the boys for this match,” Lyons said.

“I was going to go out and watch the match.”

To play would be amazing. I’m ready to go.”
