British and Irish Lions star Jamie Roberts has been given the all-clear after suffering a shoulder injury in the 39-3 win over the Sharks on wednesday.

Roberts has formed a devastating centre partnership with Brian O’Driscoll and received treatment on the side of the pitch and after having his shoulder strapped was taken off during Wednesday’s victory.

Lions coach Ian McGeechan played down any concerns over Roberts ahead of the first Test on June 20.

“There is no problem. It’s just bruising with Jamie’s shoulder.” McGeechan told the Sun.

“He took a heavy bang on it, but our doctor James Robson is pretty happy.”

The Lions were lifted after the match when they were told by Sharks coach John Plumtree that they are “better organised and better managed” than the party who toured New Zealand four years ago.

Plumtree said: “I think the Lions might find they are a little bit underdone going into the Test series, so there is a flip side to the South African provinces being under-strength against the tourists.

“The Springboks have got to make sure over the next 10 days they prepare really smartly. “

“I think the Lions will be ready more than the Boks will be in terms of their structures.”

McGeechan hailed a “very strong performance” after the tourists scored 32 unanswered second-half points.

But he warned: “The Test matches will be another level completely. We need to keep our feet on the ground.

“Our discipline and patience, and the fact we finished very strongly, showed the players are enjoying playing with the ball and without it.”
