British & Irish Lions Tour Manager, Gerald Davies and Head Coach Ian McGeechan, today announced that replacement scrum half Mike Blair has been withdrawn from the Lions match with Western Province today.

The scrum half sprained a ligament in his foot in training on Friday which unfortunately failed to settle adequately overnight.

Mike Phillips is recovering from the midweek game against the Sharks therefore Mike Blair’s place on the replacements bench has been taken by Shane Williams who will cover the scrum half position.

Shane Williams has not hit form on the Lions tour which has caused doubt on his being called up for the first test but if he comes on and goes well in the Western Province match it would do his chances of being called up – even as a replacement untility back the world of good.
