The Mayor of Wellington Kerry Prendergast has demanded that the French rugby team to apologise for Mathieu Bastareaud’s false attack story

It has been revealed that Mathieu Bastareaud made up the story he was attacked by up to five people after last weekend’s test against the All Blacks.

It turns out he was drunk and fell over, resulting in the injuries to his head.

Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast would like to hear the French Rugby Team says it is sorry.

“Wellington’s reputation as a safe city was damaged with this accusation the other day.” Predergast told RadioSport.

“It’s received headlines around the world.”

French media say Mathieu Bastareaud was scared of the consequences of his drinking, so made up the story about the attack.
