Wales and Cardiff Blues lock Bradley Davies has been ruled out of Wales’ tour of South Africa next month after he underwent surgery on Wednesday.

Davies went under the knife to have a damaged hamstring repaired before he joins London Wasps next season.

Davies joins a long list of players who will miss the trip to South Africa and includes captain Sam Warburton, fellow flanker Justin Tipuric, full-back and kicker Leigh Halfpenny and centre Scott Williams.

Hooker Richard Hibbard, scrum-half Rhys Webb and fly-half Rhys Priestland have also been ruled out of the tour.

Wales flanker Dan Lydiate is also in doubt for the Tests against the Springboks due to a hamstring problem.

Wales coach Warren Gatland will hold a Welsh ‘probables’ and ‘possibles’ match on Friday to look over what talent is available to tour South Africa.

“Bradley Davies underwent surgery yesterday for a damaged hamstring, ruling him out of contention of Wales’ tour of South Africa,” the WRU said in a statement.

Wales play the Springboks in Durban on June the 14th and then they play the Boks again in Nelspruit on the 21st.

With Sam Warburton out of contention for the tour Ospreys lock Alun-Wyn Jones is set to captain the side.
