One of Australian rugby’s hardest working players, blindside flanker Rocky Elsom, is unlikely to get a well-earned break this weekend against the Welsh.

Elsom, who had no rest during the Super 14, is set to wait for the return from injury of Reds lock Hugh McMeniman.

McMeniman is being groomed by coach John Connolly to be Elsom’s deputy.

But, according to the Courier Mail, McMeniman will not return to fitness until the Fijian Test in Perth on June 9.

Elsom has become a fixture in the Wallaby side, as Connolly does not favour the double-fetcher approach of playing both George Smith and Phil Waugh on the two flanks.

In other injury news, Cameron Shepherd is certain to miss another Test with knee ligament trouble, thus guaranteeing Julian Huxley another shot at fullback.

Connolly has also indicated that he is eager to return ace fly-half Stephen Larkham to his starting line-up, but the player must still recover on a hamstring tweak suffered last week.
