All Black aces Dan Carter and Richie McCaw remain on the “doubtful” list ahead of New Zealand’s second test against France at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Saturday.

Despite being named in the starting XV on Tuesday, both players had limited time on the field during training on Wednesday and a question mark remains over both players’ fitness.

Carter injured his left ankle in the ninth minute of last weekend’s 42-11 win over the French in Auckland, while McCaw did not return after half-time because of a hip injury.

The All Black medical staff do not regard either injury as serious and it is hoped the two will be able to play a more active part in Thursday’s training run.

Should Carter be ruled out , Nick Evans, who impressed during his stint on the field at Eden Park last week, is likely to be promoted to the starting XV.

Chris Masoe, despite suffering a head knock in the first test against the French, was named on the bench and could replace McCaw on the flank.

The good news for the Kiwis is that Jerry Collins, who was doubtful with a heel injury, took part in training and showed no signs of the injury.
