In a week in which SA Rugby representatives will be called to Parliament and Springbok coach Jake White will meet with Thabo Mbeki, there will be an internal investigation underway within the South African Rugby Union (SARU) concerning the events that transpired at a News Cafe on Thursday in Sandton.

Adnaan Mohammed, journalist of Die Son, was allegedly assaulted by Colin Francke, an apparent aquaintance of Jake White, after the aforementioned journalist had argued with White earlier.

It is not clear whether Mohammed has claimed that White is in any way accountable for the assault for which Mohammed has laid charges with the police, but either way, SARU have decided to conduct an internal investigation.

Head of legal affaisrs for SARU, Christo Ferreira, is underway with the investigation which is, according to SA Rugby’s Manager of National Teams, Andy Marinos, to be concluded “as soon as possible”.

Eye-witnesses are already being surveyed to get to the bottom of what is turning into a sordid mess, with all the finishes of tabloid.

Marinos says that once the investigation is completed “SA Rugby will take the necessary action”.

Marinos confirmed that White will be meeting with President Thabo Mbeki this week.

“It is not unusual for any high-profile national coach meeting with the President.”
