Former Wales great JPR Williams was nominated as one of two candidates to seek election as president of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) on Monday.

Williams, 58, a flying full-back who played in 55 tests, was part of three Welsh Grand Slam-winning teams and, with his thick sideburns and long hair, one of the most recognisable stars in Welsh rugby history.

His opponent in the final ballot is former WRU secretary Dennis Gethin.

The result of the election will be announced after the ballot closes on August 31 and the winner will succeed Glanmor Griffiths as president when he steps down on October 28.
