Argentina deserve their ranking – Hook

Welsh fly-half James Hook, who debuted against Argentina last year, believes the Pumas are more than deserving of their IRB ranking of fifth in the world.

As Wales look to bounce back from a crushing defeat at the hands of England at Twickenham a fortnight ago Hook knows if they are to do so they must stop the outstanding Felipe Contepomi.

“He’s a great player and if we can keep him under wraps a bit, we’ll be all right,” Hook told BBC Sport.

However it will take more than just the shackling of one man on Saturday, and despite his tender age Hook is wise enough to realise this. The battle of the forwards will go a long way to deciding who takes the spoils in Cardiff.

If Wales’ last effort was anything to go by they could be in for another long afternoon. However the pack is much changed from that which was destroyed by England and they will be hoping for a more concerted effort this time around.

“If things are going well for them up front, they won’t need to use the good players they have behind the scrum,” 22-year-old Hook added.

“They have a great pack and some great individuals in their back line.

“They deserve to be where they are and it’s going to be a tough game on Saturday.”
