Expect the Boland Kavaliers to be a more powerful unit than last year in the forthcoming Currie Cup competition.

Also expect them to cause a huge upset or two. New Boland Rugby Union president, Francois Davids, believes his troops would show more charachter and guts this time around.

“I have attended several of the team’s practices so far this season.

To say that I’m highly impressed with what I have seen is to put it lightly.

“There is determination, a new belief in themselves and a refreshing will to win. “Put these factors all together and I think we are in for a very exciting season,” Davids said.

The Kavaliers plan to play two or three warm-up matches before the season starts, but that could prove to be too little.

The new side in the Currie Cup, the Leopards, used all their top players in the Vodacom Cup matches and when it comes to match practice they are far ahead of the Kavaliers at this stage of the season. Boland’s senior coach, Deon Davids, returns to the side next week.

He is currently with the SA Under-20 team in Saldanha. Meanwhile, former Springbok flyhalf Louis Koen is taking charge of the Kavaliers.
