Heini Adams has been selected to fill the boots of injured Bulls scrumhalf Fourie du Preez in the Super 14 match against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Adams has been Du Preez’s adjutant in all of the Bulls’ matches in 2009 and he has proven himself a worthy replacement for the Springbok scrumhalf, who has a torn calf muscle.

With Adams in the Bulls’ starting line-up Francois Hougaard comes in on the bench. That brings about the return of JP Joubert as Blue Bulls scrumhalf for the Vodacom Cup final against Griquas, also to be played at Loftus.

The Bulls also welcome back Bakkies Botha following his three-week suspension after an incident against the Waratahs on the Australasian tour.

His inclusion in the starting sides sees Danie Rossouw drop to the bench.

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke said at the weekly press conference at Loftus on Wednesday that Adams is eager to show his worth and he backs him a 100 percent to do the job on Saturday.

“Losing Fourie is obviously a setback but we prefer to see it in a positive light. Fourie has been on the field in all of our matches and this break possibly comes at just the right time. “

“This is an opportunity for Heini to get game time and we are in a very fortunate position to have three top scrumhalves in the system. I have a lot of trust in Heini’s abilities,” Ludeke added that the Bulls would like to build on what they have achieved thus far and said they are all fully aware of the threat posed by the Cheetahs.

“We’ve seen against the Sharks and the Crusaders what they’re capable of, and I said from the beginning of the season that they have a very good team and are especially dangerous from broken play.

“Their set pieces are first-class, they are well coached and we all know how hard and tough derby matches are. Saturday will be no exception.

“We will continue to focus on our own game and strive to perfect what we are doing,” Ludeke said.
