New Zealand’s All Blacks have called up Crusaders fly half Colin Slade as replacement for the injured Dan Carter for their Rugby Championship campaign

Carter cracked a bone in his calf playing for the Crusaders in the Super Rugby final against the Waratahs on Saturday.

The star flyhalf Carter will miss at least three of the All Blacks Rugby Championship matches including the first two which are against Australia and double up as Bledisloe Cup matches.

“Colin Slade has been called into the All Blacks’ Rugby Championship squad as injury cover for the injured Dan Carter,” the New Zealand Rugby Union announced on Twitter.

While Slade has been called into the squad it is unlikely that he will get any Rugby Championship game time as All Blacks coach already has Aaron Cruden and Beauden Barrett in the squad.

Twenty-six-year-old Slade was part of the All Blacks Rugby World Cup squad but has only played 11 Tests since making his debut for New Zealand in 2010.

Slade’s career has been blighted with injuries including two broken jaws last year, a broken ankle and a groin injury during the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The flyhalf has been enjoying some of his best form this year and managed to keep Carter out of the Crusaders No.10 jersey when he returned from a six month sabbatical.
