Another Bull heads to Italy

Blue Bulls prop Ruan Vermeulen will head to Italy after the 2007 Absa Currie Cup to play for club side Calvisano for the next nine months.

Vermeulen, who made his debut for the Blue Bulls back in 2001, has played more than 100 matches for Bulls. He will, however, miss out on the prospect of helping the Pretoria-based side defend their Super 14 title next year.

The powerful Windhoek-born forward began his first-class career as a loose forward, but switched to prop in 2005 after Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer convinced him that his future lay in the front row.

The 28-year-old, who made his Super 14 debut against the Chiefs in February this year and played four matches for the Super 14-winning Bulls, will, however, be back in Pretoria next July in time for the 2008 Currie Cup.
