Australia beat Argentina in the Rugby Championship




The final match of the 2016 Rugby Championship will be a historic first as Argentina will host Australia at Twickenham in London England.

Australia kick off and the match is underway.

2.00: Argentina make the perfect start as an Australia clearance kick by Will Genia is charged down and the try is scored by Santiago González Iglesias. The TMO will review. No try as Santiago González Iglesias was ahead of the played who charged the kick down. Penalty to Australia.

3.00: Bernard Foley clears the ball into touch to clear.

5.00: Australia win a scrum in Argentina’s half and Adam Coleman charges for the line and scores. The TMO will review. Dane Haylett-Petty made ground and was brought to ground but it looks like he may have lost the ball forward. The TMO says he did not lose control of the ball. It’s a TRY!

6.00: Bernard Foley adds the conversion.

7.00: Australia chip the ball ahead and Argentina get back and gather the ball behind their tryline. They run the ball into Australia’s half but then concede a penalty.

10.00: Penalty to Australia inside Argentina’s half. Foley lines up the posts.  He nails the penalty.

13.00: Penalty to Argentina as they show some skill on attack which is stopped with a high tackle.

14.00; Santiago González Iglesias takes the kick but misses.

16.00: Michael Hooper is yellow carded so Australia are reduced to 14 players. The card was for a high tackle. Argentina kick for touch. It was Australia’s third high tackle.

18.00: Argentina go through the phases after the line out and gradually work the ball into Australia’s 22.  They get the ball over the line and the TMO is called in to check. No try but a penalty to Argentina for another high tackle. There is a warning for Australia.

21.00: Argentina work the ball to the Australian tryline. They go over again and this time it’s a TRY! Matias Alemanno. Relentless pressure with the pick and drive and an extra man.

22.00: The conversion is missed.

25.00: Penalty to Australia. Foley lines up the kick and nails it.

27.00: Penalty to Argentina. Iglesias will have a shot at goal. He misses.

30.00: Argentina on the attack and they get the ball up to the Australian 5m line. They get the advantage as there is another high tackle. The whistle goes. Adam Coleman is yellow carded for the tackle. Next one could be red.

31.00: Argentina take a scrum. Penalty to Australia from the scrum. Huge relief from the Wallabies.

33.00: Haylett-Petty kicks for touch but fails to find it.  The Pumas counter attack. Another penalty to Argentina so Moore gets another talking to. Penalties really mounting up against Australia. 13 so far.

34.00: Argentina run the ball but then get caught and fail to release. Penalty to Australia.

35.00: Samu Kerevi almost gets through the Pumas defence but he offloads to Haylett-Petty who loses the ball and knocks on.

37.00: Scrum penalty to Argentina. They kick for touch. Australia steal the line out and attack out wide. They get caught but recycle and change sides. Kerevi slips off one tackle and crashes over in the second and scores. TRY!

39.00: Foley misses the conversion.

40.00: Penalty to Argentina. Iglesias takes the kick and nails it.

It’s half time.

Argentina kick off and the second half is underway.

42.00: Argentina show some intent on attack but then concede a penalty. Australia kick for touch.

43.00: Argentina steal the line out and run at the Wallabies.

44.00: Argentina catch Australia asleep on the 5m line as Jerónimo De la Fuente slips through a tackle and dives over to score. TRY! Hooper missed the tackle.

47.00: Iglesias lands the conversion and the Pumas trail by three.

49.00: Hooper slips off a tackle for Australia and offloads to Kerevi who races in and dives over to score. TRY!

50.00: Foley slots the conversion.

54.00: Penalty to Argentina. Iglesias takes the kick and nails it cutting the lead to 7.

57.00: Australia go on the attack but as they get the overlap Foley loses control of the ball and knocks on.

59.00: Argentina go through 8 phases making slow but steady ground.

61.00: 10 phases and Argentina get to the 5m line. They go over but lose the ball. Argentina had 83% possession in the last 5 minutes.

62.00: The scrum on the 5m line collapses.

63.00: Scrum Penalty to Australia. They clear the ball into touch.

67.00: Argentina kick deep and trap Australia in their 22. They kick the ball into touch and Argentina win the line out and attack in the Wallabies 22. As Argentina press forward they knock on. The handbags come out. It dies down.

68.00 A weird moment follows as the ball comes out loose and Nick Phipps shoves off a Pumas physio on the field. There will surely be more on that incident. Argentina are given a penalty.

69.00: Iglesias slots the penalty.

73.00: Penalty to Australia. Foley lines up the posts. He nails it. Australia lead by 7 again.

76.00: Argentina have the ball on attack but Dean Mumm gets an intercept and races for the line to score. TRY !

78.00: The conversion is missed by Foley.

79.00: Australia have the ball on attack and they go wide but the ball is taken into touch. There is time for the line out.

The line out completes.

Thats it. Australia have won.
