Australian Rugby Union Chief executive John O’Neill has confirmed that outgoing Blues coach David Nucifora has been signed as the Wallabies’ high-performance coach, although final details surrounding the appointment were yet to be confirmed.

The appointment had been widely expected particularly after Nucifora confirmed on May the 1st that he would not be looking to extend his stay with the Blues.

“I have settled on David Nucifora,” said O’Neill.

“We’re just trying to overcome some schooling issues, he’s got three kids, two girls and a son, and subject to finalising the schooling, David will take up his position in June.” he added.

The former Wallabies hooker will replace Pat Howard.

Howard returned to Australia last year after a successful stint with English club side Leicester Tigers to take up the position.

Nucifora has been with the Blues since 2005 but joined them initially as a technical advisor.

He led the ACT Brumbies to the 2004 Super 12 title, despite being told midway through the season his contract would not be renewed at its conclusion.

Nucifora ruled out applying for the Waratahs job after current coach Ewen McKenzie was told his contract would not be renewed after this season.
