Former Springbok Ashwin Willemse and Super Sport Super rugby analyst walked out of the SuperSport studios live on air citing racism.
The incident unfolded after the Lions’ 42-23 win over the Brumbies on Saturday.
The former Springbok winger accused his fellow studio presenters Naas Botha and Nick Mallett of patronising him as they “played in the Apartheid era, in the era of segregation”.
“I’ve been in the game for a long time like most of us here. As a player, I’ve been called a quota for a long time and I’ve worked very hard to earn the respect I have now,” said Willemse.
“I’m not going to sit here and be patronised by these two individuals (Mallett and Botha) who played their rugby during the apartheid era, a segregated era,” added Willemse.
SuperSport are investigating the incident and said, “SuperSport views this incident in a serious light – we will conduct a full investigation and interview all relevant individuals”
