Australia beat Argentina in Rosario





Argentina have been in the Rugby Championship for almost two full years and they have yet to win a match but many across the globe are predicting that this will change this weekend.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off. The anthems have been sung and the crowd are still singing. It’s not a sell out crowd.
0.01: Argentina kick off and we are underway.
2.00: Argentina make a fast strong start but the ball goes out. Australia take their time with the line out and they pass to Tomane who busts through the midfield and makes huge ground. He is caught and the ball goes out off a Puma player.
2.50: The Wallabies win the line out and get quick ball to Israel Folau who scores in the corner. TRY! Australia lead.
3.00: Christian Leali’ifano takes the conversion kick from almost the touchline and slots it.
5.00: The Wallabies pass the ball to Joe Tomane and again he gets through. He does however lose the ball forward in the tackle.
6.00: The Wallabies win the first scrum and get the ball down the line again but this time the pass from Tevita Kuridrani to Tomane who knocks on.
8.00: Wallabies concede a penalty for early engage at the scrum but the Pumas mess up the kick but the Pumas get a boot to the ball and the ball is knocked on at the Wallabies 5m line. Pumas scrum.
9.00: Penalty to the Pumas from a scrum. They choose another scrum.
12.00: The Wallabies concede penalty after penalty at the scrum on the 5m line. The Wallabies get a warning for collapsing.
13.00: The scrums are a mess. We are still on the Wallabies 5m line battling to complete a scrum. Another penalty for early engage. Pumas want another scrum.
15.00: Yet another penalty from the scrum and this time James Slipper is yellow carded. Benn Robinson comes on.
16.00: The Pumas complete a scrum and get a shove on but somehow Micheal Hooper comes through with the ball and races away. The Wallabies get out of jail. Hooper is caught but the Pumas take the ball out in their half.
18.00: Wallabies look really dangerous with the ball on attack. Cooper almost gets through but then they recycle and the ball is knocked on. The Pumas forwards have their hands on their hips and are heavy breathing already.
20.00: The Wallabies have the ball on attack again but a Pumas player gets a hand to the ball and we play on. The Pumas attack but concede a penalty for coming in from the side.
22.00: The Wallabies win another scrum and attack at pace but they go wide and Tomane passes to Martin Landajo who takes the ball out. Wallabies still a man down.
24.00: Penalty to the Wallabies. Lealiifano takes the kick and slots it. The Wallabies are back to 15 men.
28.00: Penalty to Argentina. They will kick for posts. Sanchez takes the kick and slots it. Argentina are on the board.
30.00: Wallabies on the attack again. Scott Fardy races for the line but is stopped short. Ref Barnes calls for the TMO to look for a shoulder charge. It’s a penalty and a yellow card for Pablo Matera for a shoulder charge. Lealiifano will kick for posts. Very harsh call. Lealiifano slots the penalty.
31.00: After the restart the Wallabies defend a Pumas attack and Lealiifano goes down holding his knee. He carries on after getting some help.
33.00: The Wallabies are on the attack again and they use the box kick and Folau, Genia and Ashley-Cooper combine with Ashley-Cooper races through and scores. We go to the TMO as there could have been a knock on. The try is awarded.
34.00: Lealiifano takes the conversion kick and misses this one.
35.00: The Wallabies get the ball from the restart and Israel Folau slices through the Pumas defence and scores. TRY!
35.00: Lealiifano slots the conversion.
37.00: Argentina go wide on attack and Marcello Bosch catches the Wallabies backs going the wrong way and he runs in the Pumas opening TRY!
37.00: Sanchez slots the conversion.
40.00: The siren goes for half time. It is half time.
The half time score was Argentina 10 Australia 25
40.01: The Wallabies kick off for the second half and we are underway. The Wallabies stayed on the field for half time like they did last week. Matt Toomua has replaced Christian Lealiifano.
41.00: The Wallabies start as they finished with quick paced ball. Israel Folau busts through the Pumas defence and scores his hat trick TRY! Bonus point try.
42.00: Quade Cooper slots the conversion.
44.00: The Pumas have the ball on attack in the Wallabies half. They do however knock on.
46.00; The Wallabies have the ball just inside the Pumas half. They are going through the phases.  It’s slow but steady and then the ball goes out.
47.00: The Pumas win the ball from a line out and attack. They slip through the first phase of defence but then get caught. They keep the ball alive and get to the 5m line. They go again and again at the line and then the TRY is scored. Wait we need to check with the TMO. Landajo has scored. It’s a TRY!
49.00: Sanchez takes the conversion kick and slots it.
50.00: Marcello Bosch is splitting the Wallabies defence. He is eventually caught after slicing through. Rob Simmons puts a shoulder into Felipe Contepomi who goes straight down. The ref sees Simmons charge and he is sin-binned. The Pumas kick for the corner and then the line out.
52.00: Argentina win the line out on the Wallabies 22. They get the ball to Bosch but he is driven backwards and then concedes a penalty for not releasing. Cooper kicks for touch.
53.00: Tomane slices through the Pumas defence and he passes to Hooper who is open but he drops the ball!
55.00: Penalty to the Wallabies. Cooper will take the kick. He nails it.
58.00: Foul play check by the referee. Landajo gets a warning but there is no card. The Wallabies kick for touch (Toomua) and he sets up a line out.
59.00: The Pumas get the ball on attack and Matera gets the ball away to Juan Martin Hernandez but he loses the ball to Folau and he then knocks on.  
63.00: Penalty to the Wallabies. They kick for touch and set up the line out. The Wallabies win the line out but as they attack Genia kicks the ball out on the full.
63.00: Joe Tomane gets the ball and slices through the Pumas, puts his head down and races for the line and scores. TRY!
64.00: Quade Cooper takes the conversion from almost the touchline. He misses.
66.00: Contepomi comes off to finish his international career. Quade Cooper is also off.
69.00: The Pumas have a scrum inside their half. It struggles to complete.
73.00: The Waallbies have a scrum which dismantles the Pumas scrum. Hooper makes a break and the Wallabies keep the ball alive and Benn Robinson goes over to score the sixth Wallabies TRY! 
74.00: Bernard Foley takes the conversion and nails it.
78.00: Lucas Amorosino almost gets through to score a try but the Wallabies turn the ball over, Joe Tomane chips ahead and Bernard Foley gets the ball and scores the seventh Wallabies TRY – on his debut!
79.00: Foley adds the conversion.
80.00: The whistle goes for full time.
