Australia beat New Zealand in Sydney

Out of the last six Rugby Championship matches between Australia’s Wallabies and New Zealand’s All Blacks there has been one draw and the All Blacks have won five.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off. The All Blacks are performing the Haka. Ka Mate. 

0.001 Bernard Foley kicks off and we are underway. 

1.00: The All Blacks make a mistake after the kick off and Australia pounce but then knock on. 

2.00: The All Blacks get the put in, they win the scrum and Aaron Smith (box-kick) chips the ball upfield. 

3.00: Penalty to New Zealand after some scrappy play by both sides.The All Blacks kick for touch and the line out.  

6.00: The All Blacks scrum is solid but the Wallabies steal the ball. The All Blacks get the put in after Israel Folau loses the ball. 

7.00: The All Blacks win the scrum and run the ball. Ben Smith gets the ball away to Milner-Skudder who is stopped 5m short. Sonny Bill goes for the line but is stopped. The All Blacks win a penalty. Sekope Kepu makes a tackle and is not back 10 so is yellow carded. 

8.00: Dan Carter lines up the posts for the penalty kick. He nails it and the All Blacks are on the board. 

9.00: Matt Giteau chips the ball upfield and finds touch deep in NZ territory. 

11.00: After the All Blacks win the line out Milner-Skudder almost gets through again but is caught. The Wallabies turn the ball over and then kick upfield. 

14.00: The Wallabies concede their fourth penalty. Dan Carter kicks for touch but the ball goes straight into touch. 

15.00: Greg Holmes comes on for Michael Hooper. Could be blood. 

16.00: The ball is charged down after a scrum and its a mad dash for the ball. Carter gets a toe to it but Nick Phipps and then Giteau just beat Carter to the ball and dot it down. 

17.00: The Wallabies pass the ball back towards their line but Phipps rushes the pass and Giteau misses the ball and then regathers it. 

19.00: The Wallabies win a scrum but after two phases the All Blacks turn the ball over. They kick the ball deep and Folau sends it back and into touch. 

22.00: The Wallabies win a penalty from the breakdown (Hooper who has come back on). They kick for touch and the line out. 

23.00: The Wallabies win the line out and Pocock bursts through and races for the line. He is caught and the Wallabies keep the ball alive and continue the attack in the All Black 22. 

24.00: The ball slows in front of the posts and then goes dead. Wallaby put in for the scrum. 

25.00: Penalty from the scrum in front of the posts to the Wallabies. Wheeled. Giteau will take the shot. 

26.00: Giteau slots the penalty and the scores are level. 

27.00: Penalty to New Zealand. Aaron Smith won it by catching Nick Phipps off guard at the ruck. Dan Carter lines up the posts. 

29.00: Carter slots the penalty and the All Blacks lead. 

32.00: Penalty to Australia. Giteau misses and hits the upright. The ball is played and then goes into touch. McCaw looks to have taken a blow he gets some help and then carries on. 

33.00: Wallabies win the line out and attack on the All Black 22. Israel Folau slips through and races for the line, he is just stopped short and the support comes in but knocks on. 

34.00: The All Blacks win the scrum and A.Smith clears the ball into touch about 5m from the half way line. 

36.00: The Wallabies set up a line out in the All black 22 but the ball is lost and the All Blacks clear it after some messy play which almost saw Stephen Moore get through. 

37.00: The Wallabies lose the line out again and attack working the ball to the half way line. They get pressed back and the Wallabies turn the ball over but then knock on. 

38.00: All Blacks win a scrum on the half way line. They run the ball and get into the Wallabies half. 

39.00: Dane Coles makes a break and slips past one. He is caught but the ball stays alive and the All Blacks attack on the 5m line. The siren sounds but the All Blacks attack in the corner and the final pass is forward as Savea goes into touch. We go to the TMO to check a no arms tackle by Hooper on Savea. Nothing comes of it and its half time. 

The half time score was Australia 3 New Zealand 6

Dan Carter kicks off but his kicks does not travel 10m so there is a scrum on the half way to Australia. 

41.00: The Wallabies win a penalty from the scrum  and kick for touch. The line out is overthrown but the Wallabies recover. 

42.00: As the Wallabies attack Aaron Smith tackles Adam Ashley-Cooper high and is yellow carded. The medics take their time with Ashley-Cooper and he carries on. Australia kick for the corner and the line out. They win the line out and use the maul. They get the advantage. 

43.00: The maul is stopped and they recycle the ball and Kepu slips through and scores. TRY! Kepu slipped off two tackles and scored. One of the missed tackles was Kieran Read. 

44.00: Giteau slots the conversion and the Wallabies lead. 

46.00: The All Blacks up the pressure and push the Wallabies back into their 22. Foley gets trapped in the dead ball zone after carrying it over. All Black 5m scrum. 

48.00: The All Blacks win the scrum and go through 9 phases on the 5m line. They win a penalty. Pocock is covered in blood from his eye. Carter signals they will take a penalty which will eat up time for Aaron Smith. 

50.00; Matt Toomua is coming on. Carter takes the shot and nails it. Carter is now the first player to score 1500 Test points. Toomua is on for Foley. 

52.00: Toomua immediately makes an impact with some straight running. The Wallabies run the ball into the All Black 22. 

53.00: The Wallabies go through 10 phases and then Nick Phipps tackles Conrad Smith who had just been awarded a penalty. Phipps did not retreat and is yellow carded. Aaron Smith comes back on. Sonny Bill Williams has been replaced by Malakai Fekitoa. 

55.00: Ben Smith slips off one tackle and passes the ball to Nehe Milner-Skudder on the wing and he runs in the try untouched as easy as you like. TRY On debut. 

57.00: Carter misses the conversion. New Zealand lead by 4. 

58.00: Penalty to Australia for joining the ruck incorrectly. Giteau kicks for touch and the line out. Scott Sio and James Horwill have been subbed. 

59.00: Australia go through 8 phases in the All Black half. They keep the ball moving through 12 phases but don’t make a lot of ground. Suddenly Adam Ashley-Cooper breaks down the wing off a ball from Matt Toomua. He slips over in the corner beating Ben Smith and scores. TRY! The TMO confirms. Australia lead again. 

61.00: Matt Giteau takes the conversion from outwide. He slots it. Australia still a man down. 

63.00: The All Blacks win a scrum in the Wallabies half. They spin the ball out to Milner-Skudder who bashes over taking three over with him. The TMO will check but it looks like he has scored. Initially Milner-Skudder has ben held up but he moves to make the ball playable and scores. Its a double for Milner-Skudder on his international debut! TRY! Nic White will come on for Nick Phipps. Wallaby coach Michael Cheika can’t believe it was awarded. 

65.00: Carter missed the conversion. Kurtley Beale comes on for Matt Giteau. 

69.00: Penalty to Australia. Nic White takes the shot from well out. He nails it. Australia lead. 

71.00: Australia chip the ball up and chase. They regain the ball and set up the attack on the 5m line. Its slow but steady. Nic White slips through and scores TRY !!

73.00: White adds the conversion and the Wallabies lead by 8.

76.00: The All Blacks win a penalty. They kick for touch and the line out. The All Blacks win the line out but the ball is slow. The ball goes dead so the All Blacks get the scrum put in. 

77.00: TJ Perenara who has just come on knocks the ball on after the All Blacks win the scrum. 

79.00: Nic White puts the ball into the scrum. Australia win the scrum and White has a run. He is caught. Penalty to the All Blacks. They tap and go. The Wallabies turn the ball over. They wind the clock down, kick for touch and that is it! 

Australia have won the match and the Rugby Championship. 

The full time score is Australia 27 (3) New Zealand 19 (6)
