Australia v Argentina Rugby Championship Rd.4 Preview

The second match in Round 4 of the Rugby Championship is in Perth where Australia’s Wallabies host Argentina’s Pumas.

Australia ended a six match losing streak last weekend by beating South Africa in Brisbane and the result of this week’s match will show whether they have turned a corner or not.

Although Argentina lost last week they were more than competitive and will have taken confidence from the first half and the victory over South Africa the week before that.

In the last five matches between Australia and Argentina the Wallabies have won four and the Pumas one. That includes their last meeting which was in the World Cup Semi-final.

Overall Australia have played Argentina 25 times since 1979 and Australia have won 19 matches, drawn one and lost five. This gives them a record of winning 76% of their matches regardless of the venue.

The average score when these teams meet regardless of the venue is Australia 27 Argentina 15.

The teams have met 12 times on Australian soil and Australia have won all but one which gives them a record of winning 92% of their home matches.

The average score when Australia play Argentina in Australia is Australia 30 Argentina 14.

For this week Argentina have made four changes to the side that pressed New Zealand last week. Thomas Cubelli, Juan Manuel Leguizamon, Santiago González Iglesias and Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino all return to the starting line up.

Cubelli replaces Martin Landajo on the bench. Matías Orlando has been replaced by Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino.

Juan Martin Hernandez drops out of the squad due to injury and is replaced by Santiago González Iglesias. In the forwards Javier Ortega Desio replaces Guido Petti.

Australia have made one change and Reds lock Rob Simmons returns to the starting side having played two games for Queensland Country.Waratahs prop Tom Robertson could make his debut while Henry Speight could make his return off the bench.

The Bookies have given Argentina an 11 point start for this Match – with an offer of up to $200 in Bonus bets. The loss of Juan Martin Hernandez is always a blow for a Pumas side and there is the feeling that they gave too much last weekend and might not have enough left in the tank for this week. Australia should win this by 7.

This Match will be shown on TV in NZ (Sky), Aus (Fox Sports), SA (SuperSport) and in the UK on Sky Sports 3/HD.

Average score: Australia 27 Argentina 15.
