New Zealand beat Australia in Sydney

The Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup for 2016 kicks off in Sydney where Australia’s Wallabies host New Zealand’s All Blacks.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off. An injury to Nathan Harris sees Dane Coles come on to the bench and Codie Taylor into the starting line up.

The Wallabies are on the field. The All Blacks are on the field. The anthems have been sung. We are now waiting for the Haka.

The Haka has now been performed.

Referee Jaco Peyper blows his whistle and Bernard Foley kicks off. The match is underway.

1.00: The All Blacks lose the ball forward so the Wallabies have a scrum.

2.00: Free kick to Australia. They kick the ball into the All Blacks 22 and apply pressure. The Wallabies win a penalty on the All Black 22m line. Australia will go for posts. AB Hooker Codie Taylor has had to come off for a concussion test.

4.00: Foley kicks the penalty and Australia lead.

5.00:  The All Blacks attack with the ball outwide and they get an overlap. Dane Haylett-Petty lets Ryan Crotty slip through a tackle and Crotty goes in to score. TRY!

6.00: Beauden Barrett takes the conversion kick and nails it. All Blacks lead.

8.00: The All Blacks kick deep and behind Australia’s defence. Israel Folau gets back and dots the ball down. Matt Giteau is down injured – ankle. Matt Toomua is warming up but Giteau will stay on and gets some extra strapping which pauses the game.

9.00: Australia restart the match but the news from the sideline is that Codie Taylor has failed his concussion test which means Dane Coles will play the rest of the match even though earlier this week he was not even in the matchday squad.

11.00: Penalty to New Zealand. Giteau has taken another knock on the same ankle. He has come off. Toomua is on. The All Blacks take the penalty kick.

12.00: Barrett takes the shot at goal but misses.

13.00: The All Blacks press the Wallabies back into their 22. As they get to the 5m line they win a penalty. Barrett takes his time but signals that they will go for posts.

16.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick – he nails it.

17.00; The Wallabies get the ball and go through 6 phases on the half way line. They kick to the All Black 22. The All Blacks counter attack.

19.00: The ball is kicked back and forth and it is charged down from an Israel Folau kick. The ball goes straight to Ben Smith and he offloads and the All Blacks go over the line and Retallick scores. However replays show that Smith was offside so no try.

21.00: After the restart the Wallabies go off their feet at the breakdown which gives the All Blacks another penalty. Barrett lines up the kick.

22.00: Barrett takes the kick and nails it.

23.00: Penalty on the half way line to Australia. Foley kicks for touch and the line out.

24.00: The All Blacks win the line out – Read beat Hooper – and they kick the ball into touch on the half way line.

25.00: Read again steals the Wallabies line out. The All Blacks attack and then change sides and Beauden Barrett slices through the Australian backline and scores. TRY!

27.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick and nails it. Australia’s scrum and line out struggling heavily.

28.00: The All Blacks attack in the Wallabies half. They win a penalty for hands in the ruck – David Pocock. Peyper gives the Wallabies a team warning. Barrett kicks for touch.

29.00: The All Blacks have the Wallabies under real pressure in their 22. They chip ahead as Matt Toomua is down. The Wallabies get back but Will Genia is high tackled by Israel Folau. Penalty to Australia. Toomua has to come off for a concussion test. Wallabies kick for touch.

31.00: The Wallabies win the line out but their territorial kick is charged down and Jerome Kaino gets the ball – recovers it and runs in to score. TRY! Bonus point try if it stays like this.

32.00: Barrett misses the conversion. 65% possession for the All Blacks so far.

35.00: The All Blacks almost get the overlap on the half way line but the ball goes into touch. Wallabies line out. The ball is knocked on at the line out by Hooper so the All Blacks have a scrum.

37.00: After a reset the All Blacks win the line out. The All Blacks run the ball and get it into the Wallabies 22. Australia turn the ball over and Foley kicks the ball to the half way line.

38.00: The All Blacks turn the ball over from a loose pass and Barrett slices through again and offloads to Waisake Naholo who scores TRY ! However he looks to have injured himself.

39.00: Another blow for Australia as Rob Horne has to come off with what looks like a serious arm injury. Naholo is also off. Barrett adds the conversion. Nick Phipps is on for Horne.

40.00: Aaron Smith boots the ball into touch after the restart and the siren.

It’s half time.

The All Blacks kick off for the second half.

Aaron Cruden has come on for New Zealand as Ryan Crotty needed some attention.

42.00: The All Blacks continue where they left off, keeping the Wallabies pinned in their 22. The ball is kicked ahead but it goes too far. Australia will restart.

43.00: The All Blacks go through a number of phases but then knock on. Australia win the scrum and then kick to the All Blacks who counter attack.

45.00: The All Blacks are enjoying a mountain of possession. They chip ahead and Israel Dagg almost gets a try but is held up.

46.00:The All Blacks win the ball on the 5m line from the scrum but then Read loses the ball in the tackle.

50.00: Aaron Cruden gets the ball in the All Black half from a Wallabies turn over. He chips the ball ahead and Julian Savea chases but the ball goes into touch. James Slipper comes on for Scott Sio.

52.00: The Wallabies lose the ball forward and the All Blacks chip the ball ahead but it goes into touch.

55.00: The All Blacks get the ball from a loose pass and Malakai Fekitoa almost gets away to score but is caught by Nick Phipps. The All Blacks keep the ball alive and go wide but Dane Coles cuts back in wrong-footing the Wallabies and scores. TRY!

57.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick but misses.

58.00:New Zealand are still on the attack and they get the ball out to Julian Savea on the fifth phase and he powers to the corner and scores. TRY! With that Savea has become the fastest player to score 40 tries.

59.00: The conversion is missed.

62.00: Stephen Moore comes off for the Wallabies. Tatafu Polota-Nau is on.

63.00: Australia get some attacking ball in the All Black 22. They go through 6 phases but Sam Cane wins the ball and then a penalty. Not releasing. David Pocock stays down. Sam Cane’s reward for winning the penalty is that he is replaced. Pocock gets back up and carries on. Ardie Savea is on.

64.00: The scrum has to be reset a couple of times and then moved due to the pitch tearing up.

66.00: The All Blacks win the scrum and attack. The Wallabies defend and the ball is taken into touch.

67.00: Aaron Smith has been replaced by TJ Perenara. The All Blacks win the line out and start their attack from inside their half.

72.00: The Wallabies enjoy some attacking ball and they go through 6 phases just outside the All Black 22.

73.00: Australia win a penalty and take the line out. They win the line out and use the maul but Kieran Read enters it incorrectly and is yellow carded. James Slipper has to come off for blood as Australia take the line out option for the penalty.

74.00: Australia win the line out and they go side stretchin the All Black defence and Nick Phipps scores his sixth Test TRY!

76.00: Foley misses the conversion.

77.00: Australia are back on the attack but they lose the ball forward. The All Blacks kick behind the Wallabies forcing them to start all over again.

78.00: The All Blacks press the Wallabies back into their half. They go through 5 phases and get into the Wallabies 22. They kick wide for Israel Dagg who catches the ball and could have scored. The TMO will review the try and a possible knock forward. Replays show Dagg did get the ball down but there was a knock on. At the time the ref was playing advantage so the All Blacks have a penalty for side entry.

79.00: All Blacks kick to the corner for the line out.

80.00: The hooter sounds. The All Blacks win a penalty. They will take the scrum.

81.00: The scrum collapses. And again. The scrum is moved.

83.00 The scrum completes. Perenara offloads to the backs who are caught but recycle. The AB’s go through four phases but knock on. Thats it.

The All Blacks have won.
